There is another group of visual distortions the ones that are typically reported by either kids having difficulties learning at school, or those who are suffering visual symptoms after a concussion, whiplash or head trauma. Dark or gray shapes in the sides of the vision.Flashes of light, similar to the point above. If you notice the following, we suggest you seek urgent attention from your optometrist: However, as there are no pain receptors inside the eyes, visual disturbances can often be the only warnings signs of something more serious, such as a retinal detachment. Floaty things: clear, squiggly worms or fine, thin threads dancing in your vision are known as floaters. It can be the warning signs for some people that a migraine is about to hit, or if it occurs on its own, it's known as a visual migraine or ocular migraine.īecause the sudden onset of flickering, flashing or disturbed vision can be the warning signs of something much more serious, such as a retinal stroke or detachment, it is important to seek immediate attention from your optometrist. Now, let's get started with ripping protected DVDs with VLC and HandBrake.Ĭlick to download Handbrake and VLC on Windows or Mac if you haven't got them on your computer. However, VLC can make Handbrake rip copy protected DVDs via the included library libdvdcss. HandBrake can't remove DRM and has no plans to support copy-protected DVDs for copyright reasons. How to Free Rip Protected DVDs with VLC and HandBrake? Hence, the ripping speed is a snail's pace. Beyond that, VLC only supports GPU decoding, not GPU Hardware accelerated encoding. So you can't rip a protected DVD with VLC. It's more like a process to record the DVD content to MP4 in real time. But the DVD ripping process in VLC is not equal to the general DVD ripping as you thought. Note: VLC media player can independently rip DVDs to MP4 MOV AVI, etc. VLC contains the libdvdcss library that Handbrake requires for protected DVDs, and there is a good chance that you already have it installed on your computer. So why do many online guides and this post tell you to rip DVDs with Handbrake and VLC? This is because installing libdvdcss, for most non-technical users, is more complicated than getting VLC, especially on a Mac device. That means you don't need to install VLC for Handbrake to rip protected DVDs. The libdvdcss is a part of the VideoLAN project and is used by VLC media player. But with a third-party library called libdvdcss, Handbrake is able to read DVDs protected by CSS. However, Handbrake can't remove copy protections on commercial DVDs on its own. The tendency of obsidian to form conchoidal fracture is what allows it to form such sharp surfaces. Conchoidal fracture is a smooth scallop-shaped surface formed when a glassy material like obsidian is broken. Because the natural glass does not have an orderly internal structure, obsidian will break into conchoidal fracture. One of the most familiar associations with obsidian is its use in arrowheads by Native Americans. states of Virginia, as well as Pennsylvania and North Carolina. Obsidian can also be found in the eastern U.S. states including Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Yellowstone National Park has a mountainside containing obsidian located between Mammoth Hot Springs and the Norris Geyser Basin, and deposits can be found in many other western U.S. Obsidian flows which may be hiked on are found within the calderas of Newberry Volcano and Medicine Lake Volcano in the Cascade Range of western North America, and at Inyo Craters east of the Sierra Nevada in California. It can be found in Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Australia, Canada, Chile, Georgia, Greece, El Salvador, Guatemala, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Scotland, Turkey and the United States. Obsidian can be found in locations which have experienced rhyolitic eruptions. This obsidian variant is commonly used for jewelry. The color of obsidian depends on the chemical composition of the impurities.Ī unique type of obsidian is called snowflake obsidian due to the presence of radiating cristobalite, a light colored material. Unlike basalt, obsidian's dark color is due to high amounts of impurities rather than the presence of dark colored minerals. Obsidian is commonly a translucent dark brown or black. Mafic lavas crystallize to form basalt, which is also dark in color. California Rainbow Obsidian Is a Natural Wonder (Photos) AppearanceĪ common misconception about obsidian is that its dark color is due to having crystallized from mafic lava. These bubbles can produce interesting effects such as a golden sheen (sheen obsidian).Īn iridescent, rainbow-like sheen ( rainbow obsidian) is caused by inclusions of magnetite nanoparticles. Obsidian may contain patterns of gas bubbles remaining from the lava flow, aligned along layers created as the molten rock was flowing before being cooled. In some stones, the inclusion of small, white, radially clustered crystals of cristobalite in the black glass produce a blotchy or snowflake pattern (snowflake obsidian). Iron and magnesium typically give the obsidian a dark brown to black color. Pure obsidian is usually dark in appearance, though the color varies depending on the presence of impurities. Having a low water content when newly formed, typically less than 1% water by weight, obsidian becomes progressively hydrated when exposed to groundwater, forming perlite. This breakdown of obsidian is accelerated by the presence of water. Oregon Rainbow Aurora Borealis Obsidian Credit :OldGrowthForests Because obsidian is metastable at the Earth's surface (over time the glass becomes fine-grained mineral crystals), no obsidian has been found that is older than Cretaceous age. Crystalline rocks with obsidian's composition include granite and rhyolite. Obsidian consists mainly of SiO 2 (silicon dioxide), usually 70% or more. Though obsidian is usually dark in color similar to mafic rocks such as basalt, obsidian's composition is extremely felsic. It is sometimes classified as a mineraloid. Obsidian is mineral-like, but not a true mineral because as a glass it is not crystalline in addition, its composition is too complex to comprise a single mineral. Because crystals cannot form in this situation, the lava cools into a volcanic glass containing no crystals! Also, the overall high viscosity of the lava prevents much movement from occurring. The chains of polymers in the felsic lava get in the way of mineral components connecting with each other to form crystals. In order for minerals to grow, the correct blocks must be present and they must be able to connect in the lava. You can think of the components in minerals as building blocks. To understand the formation of obsidian, we must first review how crystals form. Obsidian is marked by its absence of crystals. The silica-rich lavas that form obsidian flow extremely slowly due to the effects of polymerization of the silica atoms. Water has very low viscosity, so it flows very easily, whereas honey has a high viscosity and flows much more slowly. A more familiar example of substances with differing viscosities is the difference between honey and water. I have this picture from a website where virgin media forbids to enter hence I used a VPN, I haven't found a solution to remove the limit because the guy that made this message took this article from a page that was once posted on virgin media website and now is 404. Just had my Hub 5 installed today as well with gig1 and yes I can confirm that P2P transfers have been slowed down to 10%-15% of the bandwidth anybody saying otherwise they either don't know nothing about internet connectivity or they are too youngīasically I still have my DSL connectivity from EE and they have 67mb contract I download anything with a peak of 6,7MB/s as P2P so torrents from work or download from other uploaded websites that are P2P after some digging I found that virgin media have been hiding and they DO limit the band to don't exceed the equipment to heavy loads hence the limit to download anything from internet so if I have 1gig I should at least able to download with minimum guaranteed speed of 500mb/s or something like that, meaning 50mb/s downloading a file that has for example 4gb in just seconds, Over and above that, P2P traffic tends to throttle itself quite happily, if you are not careful, it’s saturate the upstream and, as a consequence, impact the downstream performance. If your P2P software, instead displays megaBytes per seconds, then as a very rough estimate, multiply that by 10. Has anyone experienced the same? Any tips?ĥ5-60 Mega Bytes per seconds or Mega bits per second? Different software can show the speeds in different ways, technically, you should always measure speeds in terms of bits per second (lower case b). I'm not even sure if it's anything to do with the Hub5, its possible the slower speeds had been happening before installing the Hub5 but I hadn't noticed. I'd thought that virgin had stopped any throttling but maybe thats changed? Speedtest app shows the connection consistently maxing out at 1130-1160Mbpsīut p2p won't download at anything over 55-60MBps, p2p used to max out the connection no matter what time of day it was. Beyond emotional and behavioral issues, there can be complications with general anesthesia in pediatric patients, even with the brief anesthetic exposure required for a tympanostomy procedure, especially in young children (Ing et al., 2014 Wang et al., 2014 Zhang et al., 2015). In addition, following elective outpatient surgery, data indicate that children can experience short-term behavioral problems, such as post-surgical emergence delirium, sleep problems, and eating disturbances (Kain et al., 2006 Mason, 2017). Unfortunately, most children as well as their parents have high distress associated with anesthesia (Chorney & Kain, 2009 Davidson & McKenzie, 2011 Fortier et al., 2010 Kain et al., 1999). This surgery is typically brief and uncomplicated given the extreme sensitivity of the eardrum and the mobility of young children, general anesthesia is employed. The procedure involves making an incision in the tympanic membrane (TM) and inserting a tube to maintain ventilation and prevent recurrence of fluid. Myringotomy and tympanostomy tube placement for recurrent acute otitis media or chronic otitis media with effusion is the most common ambulatory pediatric surgical procedure in the USA, accounting for 24% of all pediatric (0–15 years of age) ambulatory surgeries (Hall et al., 2017). These data suggest that pediatric tympanostomy and tube placement can be achieved in the outpatient setting without anxiolytics, sedatives, or mechanical restraints. The iontophoresis, tube delivery system and behavioral program were associated with generally low behavioral distress. FLACC scores were inversely correlated with age, with older children displaying lower distress. Mean FLACC score 3-min post-tube placement was 1.3 for children ages 6 months to 4 years and was 0.2 for children age 5–12 years. Mean tube placement FLACC score was 4.0 (out of a maximum score of 10) for children ages 6 months to 4 years and was 0.4 for children age 5–12 years. Mean FPS-R score for tube placement was 3.30, in the “mild’ pain range, and decreased to 1.69 at 5-min post-procedure. Independent coders supervised by a psychologist completed the face, legs, activity, cry, consolability (FLACC) behavior observational rating scale to quantify children’s distress. Pain was measured via the faces pain scale-revised (FPS-R) self-reported by the children ages 5 through 12 years. Anxiolytics, sedation, or papoose board were not used. Behavioral strategies were used to minimize procedural distress. The in-office tube placement procedure included local anesthesia via lidocaine/epinephrine iontophoresis and tube placement using an integrated and automated myringotomy and tube delivery system. The cohort included 14% Hispanic or Latinx, 84.2% White, 12.6% Black, 1.8% Asian and 4.1% ‘Other’ race and ethnicity classifications. Mean age of children was 4.7 years old (SD = 3.18 years), with more boys (58.1%) than girls (41.9%). 120 6-month- to 4-year-olds and 102 5- to 12-year-olds were treated at 16 otolaryngology practices. The purpose of this study was to evaluate behavioral strategies to minimize procedural distress associated with in-office tympanostomy tube placement for children without general anesthesia, sedation, or papoose-board restraints.
